This Arduino Nano USB cable carries both data and power, so you only need one cable to program and run your board. Plug the Mini USB end into your Nano and the USB Type-A end into your computer, then open the Arduino IDE and upload your sketch.
A lot of people lose the small Mini USB cable that the Nano needs, and many phone chargers do not use this connector at all. Keeping a spare in your project box saves you from a stuck project when you cannot find the right one.
Some cheap Mini USB cables are made only for charging. They power the board, but your computer will not detect it, so you cannot upload any code. This cable supports data sync as well, so your Nano shows up as a COM port, and you can upload sketches and use the Serial Monitor without trouble.
If no port shows up, your Nano clone may use a CH340 chip and need its driver installed.
Besides Arduino Nano boards, the same cable fits other devices that have a Mini USB port, like some older cameras, GPS modules, and external drives. It is a handy cable to keep in your toolbox even outside Arduino projects.
Whether you are just starting with Arduino or already building robotics and electronics projects, you’ll use a spare Arduino Nano USB cable again and again. A missing cable is one of the most common reasons a project stops for the day, so it is always better to have an extra one ready.
