This soil moisture sensor measures how much water is present in the soil and sends the reading to your Arduino or other microcontroller. Push the probe into the soil, connect the pins, upload a short sketch, and you can tell when your plant is dry.
It is a handy module for automatic plant watering, smart garden and irrigation projects, and school science exhibits. The board gives both analog and digital output, so you can read the moisture level or simply get a yes or no signal. A small knob on the board lets you set the dry and wet threshold. Wet soil conducts better than dry soil, and the module turns this difference into a signal your code can use. Keep the electronics part out of the soil and water, and take the probe out when you are not using it, because the metal can corrode over time.
